Drawing on Aristotle’s idea of eudaimonia, or human flourishing, this article argues that schools must pursue academic excellence alongside the development of judgement, resilience, cultural understanding and the capacity to contribute meaningfully to the world. It identifies ambition, belonging and curiosity as three essential foundations for this broader definition of success, suggesting that while grades measure what students have achieved academically, the deeper purpose of education is to prepare them to continue learning, build relationships, make wise choices and flourish throughout their lives.
